Rear Bumper
The rear bumper of a vehicle is designed to protect the
aft section of the car during a minor collision. Most vehicles are designed
with the gas tank in the rear of the car, making a bumper essential
for safety reasons. Like the front bumper, they are often connected
to the vehicle’s safety systems and often trigger the airbags
when hit hard enough.
The rear bumper, like the front, is usually made from steel and is
often hidden by a cover. Many bumpers are designed with “crumple
zones”, which enable them to give way at certain points to minimize
the damage to both vehicles during an accident. Bumpers are often designed
with the idea of protecting the pedestrian should you be so unfortunate
as to hit one.
The rear bumper of a car is also a great place to display any opinions
you might have through the use of stickers. The rear of many cars is
home to at least one sticker, and in some cases several. This is especially
true with cars belonging to college students.
