Front Bumper
The front bumper of any vehicle is to help protect the
car and driver in the event of a minor front-end collision. It is designed
to keep vital parts of the engine, like the radiator, from being damaged.
They are considered the first line of defense in a collision.
On older cars and trucks, the front bumper is often made from metal.
Most often it is made from chrome plated steel. While these are usually
quite durable, they add a considerable amount of weight.
Most modern front bumpers are still made from metal, but they are smaller
and usually covered with a bumper cover. These covers are designed to
make the bumper seem part of the overall design, and not an after thought.
After an accident, the cover often needs to be replaced.
