Car Bumper
The car bumper has been a part of auto design for the
last 60+ years. It has been considered one of the defining design features
of many of the greatest cars ever created. Many classics owe their popularity
to the design of the bumpers.
Auto safety became an issue for many during the late 1970’s,
resulting in a few government regulations that had to be incorporated
into every vehicle. These regulations have altered the way bumpers have
been designed for the last 20 or so years. Today’s car bumper
is considerable more lightweight than those previous to 1979.
The primary function of a car bumper is to protect the front and rear
of a car during a minor impact. The majority of these impacts most often
occur in parking lots rather than on the road. Modern bumpers are designed
with the safety of pedestrians in mind.
