Bumper Cover
The bumper cover developed during the 1980’s. The
loosening of auto safety regulations by the Reagan administration permitted
the industry to build cars with an emphasis on style, rather than safety.
Auto makers went from the heavy, bulky bumpers of the past to smaller
versions that allowed plastic covers to be used to finish the front
and rear of the car.
Today, the bumper cover is used on nearly every single vehicle produced
by the auto industry. From an aesthetics standpoint, the covers are
much more visually pleasing than the steel bumpers of the past. They
have allowed car makers to create more artistic looking vehicles than
could be done with the old bumpers.
Should you find yourself involved in a minor accident, you might need
to replace your bumper cover. Fortunately, replacements are usually
easy to find and are relatively inexpensive. Most covers can be installed
by the car owner.
